You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair. ~Douglas MacArthur

Sunday Funnies
I love it when comedians can't keep it together while performing. Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were noted for it. But the whole cast of The Carol Burnett Show had trouble. Who can blame them, there were some of the fuuniest sketches on TV and maybe the most talented cast ever assembled. I miss that kind of television.

OH MY STARS! i haven't laughed that hard first thing in the morning since-well,never! thank you, thank you! what an inspiring sunday sermon!
ReplyDelete(i'm still laughing)
I think the Siamese elephants outtake is by now more famous than a lot of Carol Burnett skits that actually aired.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it Standing. Kirk, I actually had seen none of these clips pior to yesterday. Unfortunately Carol Burnett aired during that certain time period of my life (most of the 70's and 80's) when I was busy with other night-time activities or didn't have TV available.
ReplyDeleteIn more recent times, I found that Night Court often caused me to spew Diet Pepsi out my nostrils. Another good cast of truly funny people who also, obviously, cracked each other up.
ReplyDeleteTag, There will never be anything quite like these sketches. Some of the best family times I can remember are the nights sitting around watching The Carol Burnett Show.
ReplyDeleteBTW, after Artemis killed Orion, she made amends by placing him in the sky as the constellation Orion (or so the story goes).
Is there anything like this on TV now? Sometimes Mad TV makes me laugh, but there is really nothing comparable to Victor Borge and Carol Burnett. Thanks for the mighty, tear-producing laugh!
ReplyDeleteSo it was beauty that killed the hunter not misogyny. I like that much better but still Orion was a minor character unlike Demeter. Thanks for the information GJ. Glad you liked it Kass. In 1978 I was running light board for his show. Victor Borge's son Ron was the stage manager. I was laughing so hard I would miss lighting cues. Very unprofessional.
ReplyDeletei hereby absolve you of all blame for missing cues during borge's act. it's hard to see with your eyes closed! i value laughter a great deal-it heals. as joni mitchell said, "laughin' and cryin', it's all the same release." so why not laugh?
