This week in the NBA

Ouch, my Lakers getting spanked two nights in a row first by the Denver Nuggets, then by the Houston Rockets at Staples center in LA. OW! This drops the Lakers to 11/2 games behind the Suns in the Pacific division. Worse still Kobe suffers a groin injury to put him on the bench with Pau Gasol.

In the Northwest, the Portland Trailblazers with 4 wins over average teams move into first thanks to a Denver loss to the the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the Southwest, the Dallas Mavericks are one game ahead of the Rockets despite the Rockets big win over the Lakers. Dallas are just playing good ball right now.

The Celtics remain in first in the Atlantic division despite back to back loses to the Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers. This will undoubtedly knock the Celtics out of first in the power rankings. In the Central, the Cleveland Cavaliers bounce back with two quality wins at Orlando and Miami. This will move them up in the eastern Conference standings.

Three wins last week, One against the Celtics in Boston move the Atlanta Hawks to the front of the Southeast, One game ahead of the Miami Heat. Atlanta has been winning with strong team effort while Dwayne Wade is carrying the Heat. I'm not sure how long that can last.

  3. Tag, I have to tell you, I don't do ANY major league sports after divorce, but your blogging about the Lakers and the Celtics took me back a few decades. My father and his Kansas brothers were all basketball fanatics growing up, never mind that the tallest of them was about 5' 7". My dad always treated me like his "kid", not only like his "daughter". There was a high level of expectation for my basketball mastery, despite the fact that I was about 3' 0". In my youth, I was actually pretty good - quick and I could dump one in from way down the court. For many, many years, my dad considered the Lakers/Celtics rivalry a holy war. Elgin Baylor was his idol and Bill Russell a dirty, rotten, s.o.b. Look at me! I can still talk the talk! Once we were dining in the Haji Baba restaurant in Inglewood and Elgin Baylor was there. My father did the fan thing - he approached that very gracious man while he ate his meal. Baylor was wonderful, gave an autograph. I've never forgot watching my stern father melt and approach his idol. My jaw dropped.

  4. You imply that the Lakers/Celtics rivalry is not a holy war. Though I wouldn't go so far as to call Bill a dirty S.O.B (at least not to his face)

  5. My dad is small but scrappy! he doesn't give a damn if it's about the Lakers/Celtics. I learned some of the best plain, hard words of the English language when my dad watched basketball. I can literally lace a four letter word through any other word, simply adding it as another syllable.

  7. Ha! My 'tend friend, who is now my actual friend, you've got me pegged, as they say. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. I have pretty nearly BECOME my father. I look like him, I act like him. Yow. I didn't want to become my father. Although, of the two parents, he'd be the preferrable one . . . I'd say I have a lot bit. ;~}
