The Weather Watch...

... is in effect for Hampton Roads and vicinity. Expect flooding in the follwing low-lying areas....  5 to 7 inches of rain accumulating over the next 24 hours.... Adding to the flooding will be tides 10 inches above normal...the Norfolk Public Schools will be closed.

You can't find this clip in English  on Youtube. Disney flexing its corporate muscle I guess. My odlest (oldest and oddest) daughter Journey, born in Yokosuka, Japan watched this video incessantly her first 2 years of life. At 3-4 or months she would crawl over to the TV, point and say clearly POOH!. And me being a proud and obediant father would put on the laser disc with Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. I'm sure she could sing along in english to this swedish version. Even I remember most of it.

The name Journey came to Shari in a dream. Born in Japan, in her first year of life Journey visited Okinawa, Guam, Hawaii, Hermosa Beach CA, East Brunswick NJ, Dallas, San Francisco and Anchorage Alaska. I guess young Miss Journey was named appropriately. My scanner is broken and unlikely to be replaced for awhile. Thousands of pictures of my littlest child exist but this is the only one in electronic format. From the age of 5 while visiting the Honolulu Zoo. Journey declared she was going to be a zookeeper. Se loved and still loves working with animals. Started college as a biolgy major, volunteered 4 hours a week at the zoo working with small mammals, worked in a pet store and started her own small animal rescue service. At one point we had a couple of pairs of ferrets and  3 bearded dragons. She found homes for all of them except for the dragon President Ford, who just recently moved down to Pensacola to be with Journey. So one semester away from an associate's degree in biology she joined the the Navy! As a Cryptographer specializing in maintenance. She has never shown the slightest interest in electronics, must of been the money. I look at this picture and I see the newborn I held in my arms, the five year old proudly walking to her first day of school, the 15 year old behind the wheel for the first time. Is hard to believe she is going to be riding those big haze grey saily things all over the world like her old man did. I started this about the weather here in Norfolk, somehow got sidetracked. It must be time to give her a call and see if she and Ford rode tropical storm Ida OK.

  1. Did your daughter get to choose electronic Cartography herself? Or did the Navy suggest it based on some kind of testing?

  2. There is a standard test for everyone. Your options are based on test score and availablity of jobs. Some jobs are more popular than others. She scored 99 out of 100 so she got to choose and what she wanted was open. But she chose on the basis of what jobs paid the highest bonuses for finishing school.
