Ah Teddy, Your career was too short. We miss you.
One of the world's great soul men, singer Teddy Pendergrass, died at age 59 on Wednesday after a long battle with colon cancer. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Pendergrass, who was paralyzed after a 1982 car accident, died in a Philly hospital eight months after undergoing colon cancer surgery and suffering through a difficult recovery. - MTV.com
For a year working in the counseling office at El Camino Office. The music of Teddy Pendergrass was central. The people I worked with all seemed to love him. For this young white kid fresh from Texas and country rock. Teddy's brand of RnB was special. Working in that office with veterans and people committed to helping people get a good education was responsible in a large part for my later career choices. Thanks Rebecca and Miss Caroline for introducing me to this young man.
Aw, Teddy. One of my technicians told me. This may seem misplaced, and I'll say it outright, anyway. It bothers me more when the person is near my own age. Why can I accept the death of an "elderly" person (whatever that means), but not of a "young" person like me. [Note to self: I am not young.] He will be missed. He left us some very special gifts.
ReplyDeleteI just love "If You Don't Know Me By Now"
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. I loved Teddy. At least we get to keep his music.
